What is a dual-zone swim spa and do I need one?

A dual-zone (sometimes called dual-temp) swim spa is effectively two vessels in one cabinet: a long swim lane and a smaller hot tub section, separated by a wall, each with its own heater, pump set, and control panel.

When it is worth it:

• You want to swim at 84-88F and soak at 100-102F on the same evening without waiting hours for the water to change temperature.
• Different household members want different things from the same purchase.

When it is not:

• You mainly want exercise. A single-zone model of the same length gives you a longer swim lane for less money.
• Space is tight. Dual-zone cabinets are typically the longest models in a lineup.

Expect a meaningful price premium and higher running cost, since you are heating two bodies of water and running two equipment packages.
